Prof. Umberto Desideri

Umberto Desideri is Professor in the Department of Engineering for Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction of the University of Pisa, Italy. He was formerly Head of the Department of Engineering at the University of Perugia. He received a PhD in Energy Engineering at the University of Florence. He sits on the editorial boards of a number of energy journals and is active in research in the field of renewable energy systems, advanced power plants, hydrogen and fuel cells, carbon capture and storage and innovation in energy systems. He is a member of the ASME. He has founded two spin-off companies.

Prof. Francisco Tinaut

Dr. Francisco V. TINAUT is Full Professor of Thermal Engines in the Department of Energy Engineering and Fluidmechanics of the University of Valladolid (UVa, since March 1992),. Previously he was Associate Professor in the same University 1988-1992. He was born the 29th of May, 1958 in Valencia (Spain). The University education includes a Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Energetics) by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain, October 1981), a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering by Carnegie- Mellon University. (Pittsburgh, USA, 1985) and a PhD Degree by Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain, 1986) He was Assistant Dean to Vice-President of Research for Scientific and Technical Research Area in the University of Valladolid (1990-1992). Ha also was Dean of the School of Engineering (UVa, 1992-1996). He promoted the creation (1993) of the Foundation CIDAUT for Research and Development in Transport and Energy (www.cidaut.es), having been the Deputy General Director up to present. Prof. Tinaut has participated in teaching university courses in subjects of energy, engines, combustion, alternative fuels, hydrogen and fuel cells, propulsion systems, in the grades and masters in Mechanical Engineering, in the Master in Energy and in the Master in Automotive Engineering. He has been the promoter and coordinator of the ten editions of the latter Master. Prof. Tinaut is founding member of the UVa Research Group Engines and Renewable Energies. The research lines are related with combustion in engines, alternative fuels (natural gas, producer gas, biodiesel, bioethanol), and hydrogen and fuel cells. As a result, Prof. Tinaut is author of many scientific papers and principal researcher of projects related to thermal engines, energy conversion and environment. He has been the advisor of nine PhD theses, plus three more in progress. Dr. Tinaut is an active member of many technical and professional associations, having contributed to their creation and management, such as Automotive Cluster of Castile and León (FACYL, 2001, Spain, Secretary), Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2, 2002, member of Management Board), Spanish Association of Automotive Professional (ASEPA, 1996, Vice-President), Association for Mobility with Natural Gas (GASNAM, 2015, member of Management Board). He also coordinated the Automotive Work Group in the Federation of Technology Centers of Spain (FEDIT, 2005-2012).

Prof. Alfredo Squarzoni

Prof. Alfredo Squarzoni is Professor of Machine Design and Professor Emeritus at the Engineering Faculty of Genoa University. His scientific interests were related to structural analysis, mechanical design methods and mechanics of materials. He is author of 80 scientific papers in the period from 1975 to 1990, published or presented mainly in national journals and conferences. Since the late nineties his academic interest is mainly devoted to quality assurance and quality assessment of first cycle, second cycle and, more recently, third cycle programmes not only in Engineering. His activity in this field is documented by papers, presentations and relations in many national and international conferences and meetings. Since February 2011 he is member of the Steering Committee of the Agenzia per la certificazione della qualità e l’accreditamento EUR-ACE dei corsi di studio in ingegneria (QUACING Agency). Since June 2014 he is enrolled in the Register of Evaluation Experts, profile ‘System Expert’, of the Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del sistema Universitario e della Ricerca (National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes) (ANVUR). Since January 2017 he is coordinator of the Technical Committee on Engineering Education and Professional Qualification of the Engineering Association of Mediterranean Countries. He represents Genoa University and he is one of two coordinators of the Subject Area Group in Civil Engineering in the project “Measuring and Comparing Achievements of Learning Outcomes in Higher Education in Europe (CALOHEE)” in the framework of the EU Call Forward Looking Cooperation Projects (01/01/2016-31/12/2017), overall coordinator Groningen University (International Tuning Academy). He was Coordinator of the Tempus project n. 517340-TEMPUS-1-2011-1-IT-SMGR “Documentation or Quality Assurance of Study Programmes (DoQuP)” (15.11. 2011/14.05.2015), partner countries Azebaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan. He is Scientific Coordinator for Genoa University and responsible of WorkPackage 2 in the Tempus project n. 530326-TEMPUS-1-2012-1-TEMPUS-SMGR “Quality of Engineering Education in Central Asia (QUEECA)” (15/10/2012-14/10/2015), partner countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. He is Scientific Coordinator of the Tempus project n. 543727-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-IT-TEMPUS-SMGR “Online Quality Assurance of Study Programmes (EQUASP)” (01.12.2013/30.11.2016), partner country Russian Federation.
